Inaugurated by Napoléon III and Empress Eugénie on 6 October 1860, the Jardin d'Acclimatation is one of the oldest leisure parks in Europe. Originally designed as a zoo and botanical garden to 'acclimatise' exotic species brought back from French expeditions, it quickly evolved into a premier destination for Parisian leisure. The park's layout reflects the Second Empire's fascination with nature and engineering, featuring winding paths and water features designed by Jean-Pierre Barillet-Deschamps. It has maintained its historic soul for over 160 years, remaining a cherished institution where generations of Parisians have learned to ride ponies or navigate the 'Enchanted River.' In 2018, the park underwent a massive renovation led by the LVMH group and Compagnie des Alpes. This restoration successfully modernized the facilities and added 17 new attractions while preserving the iconic 19th-century architecture and Steampunk-inspired aesthetic that defines the park today. Beyond the rides, the park serves as a green lung for the 16th arrondissement.
