## History
The story of the Atelier des Lumières begins not with art, but with industry. The building itself, located in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, was originally a 19th-century iron foundry called the Fonderie du Chemin-Vert. Established in 1835, it produced castings for various industries, playing a small part in France's industrial revolution.
For over 150 years, the foundry operated, eventually closing its doors in the mid-20th century. The vast, high-ceilinged industrial space sat dormant for decades, a silent testament to Paris's rich manufacturing past, until Culturespaces, a French private operator of museums and historical monuments, saw its potential. Inspired by the success of Carrières de Lumières in Les Baux-de-Provence, Culturespaces envisioned a similar digital art center in the heart of Paris.
